Employees devoid of security

Though there is government policy of guaranteeing health and professional security of the employees working in the factories and industries, they have not been able to take advantage of the policy because of the lack of coordination and also of awareness in this regard, experts said here today.
Participants at a national conference on occupational health and safety organised jointly by Nepal Trade Union Conference and Japan International Labour Foundation said that occupational rights can be protected and social bargaining carried out only in a democratic system.
Leader of the Nepali Congress Ramchandra Paudel speaking on the occasion said that there
was still the residue of the old feudal situation for the workers to work. He pointed out the
need of clear and effective policy on social security for economic development.
Shukra Raj Sarma said that if the system of health and security could be strengthened production would soar.
President of Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) Laxman Bahadur Basnet said that discipline, honesty and dedication are the ingredients to ensure success of any occupation.
NTUC central member Rita Khanal presided over the function. Fifty persons associated with NTUC are taking part in the three day-long programme.
