Export on way to extinction

KATHMANDU: Data on exported handicraft goods show export is dying a slow death. According to three months’ comparitive data of handicraft goods exported there was a fall of 14.87 per cent in textile products and 8.10 per cent in non-textile products, said Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN). Most of the handicraft products in the three month comparative data period decreased except for felt products in the textile products section that showed an increase of 31.08 per cent compared to the same period last year. In non-textile, silver jewellery export rose by 18.09 per cent, metal craft 6.89 per cent, glass products 128.81 per cent, bone and horn products 18.96 per cent and bead items 7.44 per cent.

The three months’ comparitive data on handicraft goods exported show that there was total export worth Rs 829 million. Last year in the same period, it was Rs 902 million.
