After becoming a hit in the American market, the fidget spinner is becoming ‘the’ toy among youngsters in Kathmandu too.

Ten-year-old Avighna Shrestha from Hattigauda loves to play with his fidget spinner. He has white colour spinner that his mother bought online. “I got to know about it from YouTube. At first, I thought it was a kind of screwdriver. Later on I saw it at my cousin’s home when he was playing with it. I played with him and enjoyed it. So, I asked my parents to buy for me too.”

A student of Class V, Shrestha shared some of his friends in his class know about it, while some don’t. But why does he like it so much? “It is not only about spinning. We can do many tricks keeping the spinner in different parts of the hands. I can also do a few tricks,” he claims.

Another huge fan of this toy is Shuvam Dhakal from Chandol. Also a student of Class V, Dhakal started playing with it over a month ago. “I also saw it on You Tube and was fascinated by how they played it. Then I saw this toy on the online shop and bought it.”

Eleven-year-old Dhakal knows about fidget spinner craze in America. “I read the news online and some children used it as a weapon; so in some parts of the country, this toy is banned.”

So, he says, “Use a toy to play, rather than misusing it.” He plays with it during his leisure time at home, so, “I never get scolded by my parents”.

All his classmates know about the fidget spinner. “Half of them knew by themselves, the other half got to know about it through me,” he shares.
