Finance Minister vows to 'fully implement' budget

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel on Saturday said he was committed to fully implementing the budget announced for the fiscal year 2016/17.

Speaking with journalists at the Reporters' Club in the Capital on Saturday, Paudel said the government was all prepared to implement the budget as it had solid bases and sources for the end.

"It is very natural that those who are habituated to the political practice of yesterday doubt its implementation," he said, "But, this budget will be implemented."

"It has been rumoured that the budget would not be implemented. But, this is just a traditional thought. I appeal to the all concerned to move ahead toward budget implementation."

Meanwhile, Paudel revealed that he would table a budget implementation proposal at the Parliament very soon.

The Minister said the budget announcement was directed toward implementation of the Constitution.

"Socialism is our destination whereas social justice is our motto," he clarified, "The budget follows the same path."

Paudel said he was determined to achieve the target of 6.5 per cent economic growth in the upcoming fiscal.

The CPN-UML leader dismissed claims of various persons including lawmakers of the opposition Nepali Congress that the budget was of a bigger size than what was needed, dubbing them as "cheap comments."
