The Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies with the aim of implementing the public-private partnership (PPP) campaign for the economic transformation of the country.

An agreement was reached to jointly implement the programmes related to the industrial and commercial sectors mentioned in the National Economic Transformation-2030 (NET 2030), released by FNCCI last year, and provisions mentioned in the policies and programmes and budget of the Nepal government.

The MoU was signed by Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Supplies Dilendra Prasad Badu and FNCCI President Shekhar Golchha amid a programme held here today.

The Vision Paper 2030 was released by FNCCI through its 55th annual general meeting with the objectives of expanding the country's economy to $100 billion within the next decade, creating employment for 2.2 million people in the formal private sector, and reducing the ratio of trade deficit by half.

As per the agreement, FNC- CI will prepare suggestions in prevailing policies, and legal and procedural arrangements related to the industry, trade, and business and submit them to the ministry for timely improvement, enhancement of private sector investment, production, infrastructure, and creating employment. Necessary resources will be mobilised through mutual agreement between FNCCI and the ministry for the implementation of the programmes to achieve the results according to the partnership campaign.

A steering committee and implementation committee will be formed with the participation of FNCCI members to carry out the necessary framework and implement them as well.

It is also mentioned in the MoU that initiatives will be taken by the ministry to create a business-friendly environment and reduce the cost for businesses while FNCCI will assist in the promotion of the 'Made in Nepal' campaign implemented by the Nepalese Youth Entrepreneurs Forum (NYEF) and to increase the consumption as well as export of Nepali products.

Speaking at the programme, Minister Badu said that the collaboration between the public and private sectors is an important endeavour and should be fully implemented for the economic transformation of the country and that the government is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities.

"The NET 2030 put forward by the FNCCI has become a partnership programme between the government and the private sector and we will work to achieve visible results. On behalf of the government, we want to support the private sector in uplifting the nation's economy," he said. "We are all together in this."

Moreover, Golchha said that FNCCI will leave no stone unturned to fully implement this agreement. "Following today's cooperation agreement, the government and private sector have become one. We can achieve more when we come together. The federation has become more active than ever and we are fully committed to our mission to achieve economic transformation.

Senior Vice-President of FNCCI Chandra Prasad Dhakal said that a new chapter in the transformation of the country has started today.
