KATHMANDU, APRIL 05

The government has decided to distribute ICT awards to develop and promote the information and communications technology (ICT) sector of the country.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT) has announced to begin distribution of ICT awards from this year.

Every year the government marks National Communications and Information Technology Day on May 2. Thus, the ministry has decided to distribute the ICT awards on the same day. The awards will be distributed to any individual or organisation either working in or contributing to ICT sector.

The ministry will distribute the awards in five different categories - National ICT Excellence Award-2021, National ICT Innovation Award-2021, National ICT Award-2021 (Public Sector), National ICT Award-2021 (Private Sector) and National ICT Excellence Award-2021 (Woman).

Issuing a notice on April 3, the ministry has called on applications from the interested organisations and individuals.

The interested candidates can apply for the awards via ministry's website based on the award category.

The application deadline is on April 17.

The ministry has stated that as the government is implementing Digital Nepal framework and the country is striding towards IT advancement, the awards distribution is expected to promote the ICT sector and help develop the industry in the country.

This is the first-ever awards announced by the government for the sector.

Until now, the ICT awards were primarily being given out by the private sector players.
