KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 29
The Industry, Commerce, Labor, and Consumer Interest Committee under the House of Representatives has issued directives to the relevant authorities to enhance monitoring efforts to curb price hikes and prevent black marketing, especially during festivals, to safeguard consumers' interests.
During a meeting held on Friday, the Committee also instructed the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supply to carry out thorough market monitoring and subsequently submit a comprehensive monitoring report.
Furthermore, the Committee decided to extend the term of the Sub-Committee established to address the issues faced by the Sugar Industry and Sugarcane Farmers until December 14 of this year. It also urged the Finance Ministry to ensure that the proposed amount from the Agriculture Ministry is allocated since the subsidy set aside for the current fiscal year would not be sufficient to support the sugarcane farmers.
Currently, the government provides a subsidy of Rs 70 per quintal to sugarcane farmers. It was noted during the meeting that sugarcane farmers are still awaiting payment of approximately one billion rupees from the previous fiscal year.
The meeting also directed the government to ensure the prompt clearance of these outstanding dues. Additionally, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has been tasked with registering the necessary bill in the ongoing session of the federal parliament for the excavation, sale, and management of pebbles, sand, and stones.
In an earlier segment of the meeting, Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supply, Ramesh Rijal, called for cooperation from the judiciary and the media sector in programs related to the country's development and prosperity.
