Govt’s embankment programme starts

CHITWAN:The government has launched a new

programme called the “People’s Embankment” since this year for controlling the damage caused by big and medium size rivers. This programme has been brought keeping in mind the huge loss of life and property due to the floods and inundation caused by these rivers.

The government has earmarked Rs 1 billion under this programme to be implemented at seven different places, said Ministry of Irrigation joint secretary

Sheetalbabu Regmi. Embankments are

to be constructed in the Narayani,

Kankai, Rato, Lakhandehi, Rapti, Mahakali and Tinau rivers under the programme

for minimizing the damage caused by

these rivers. Joint secretary Regmi said

Rs 200 million has been allocated for

the programme to be implemented in Chitwan and Nawalparasi districts.
