Gulmeli coffee eyes US market

Rupandehi, January 8:

Coffee produced in Gulmi district, popularly known as ‘Gulmeli coffee’ - which has won the hearts of Japanese and Korean clients - is all set to be exported to Italy and the US also.

“The process to export coffee to Italy is underway, however, we are searching for the coffee markets in the US,” said Hari Prasad Gautam, chairman of District Cooperative Union, Gulmi.

“Annually, 15 and five tonnes of coffee is being exported to Japan and Korea, respectively,” Gautam said, adding that the coffee is being exported to Korean markets for the past two years. Nepali Bazaar Ltd, has been looking after the marketing of coffee.

“Locals are worried due to lack of market in the initial days. However it has started receiving response since 2050 BS.”
