The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast rain and snowfall in several hilly and mountainous parts of the country over the next 24 hours due to the partial influence of a westerly low-pressure system.

According to the department's forecast issued at 8:00 am on Sunday, generally cloudy conditions are expected in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi Province and Bagmati Province, as well as across Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province, Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province, while the remaining areas will see partly cloudy skies.

There is a possibility of moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the mountainous region of the country. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely at a few places in the hilly regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as in some hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

The DHM said isolated moderate rainfall may also occur at one or two places in the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Tonight, the hilly and mountainous regions of the country, including Koshi, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, are expected to remain generally cloudy, while other areas will experience partly cloudy conditions. Moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the mountainous region, and moderate rain is expected in several hilly areas of Koshi, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as in parts of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

In Kathmandu Valley, there is a 20 percent chance of light rain with thunderstorms during the day, with maximum temperatures expected between 25°C and 27°C. At night, the valley is likely to experience light rain with thunderstorms with a similar 20 percent chance of precipitation, while minimum temperatures may range between 12°C and 14°C, the DHM said.
