KATHMANDU, MARCH 13
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast rainfall and snowfall in several hilly and Himalayan areas of the country over the next 24 hours due to the partial influence of a western low-pressure system.
According to the department's forecast issued at 8:00 am on Friday, the hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi Province are expected to remain generally cloudy today, with the possibility of moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places.
Light rainfall or snowfall with thunder and lightning is also likely at a few places in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province and Lumbini Province, and at one or two places in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province.
The DHM also said isolated light rain may occur in one or two places in the Terai areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
Tonight, the hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces are expected to remain generally cloudy, while the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy conditions. Light rainfall or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in Koshi and Gandaki provinces and at one or two places in Bagmati Province.
Meteorologists said the current weather conditions are influenced by a partial western low-pressure system, along with a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere and a low-pressure area in the lower atmosphere near eastern Nepal.
In Kathmandu Valley, there is a 30 percent chance of light rain with thunderstorms during the day, with the maximum temperature expected between 24°C and 26°C. At night, the valley is likely to see partly cloudy skies with minimum temperatures ranging from 13°C to 15°C. Light rain was experienced in various parts of the Kathmandu Valley on Thursday night, which helped clear the skies.
