KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 18

Huawei Nepal's 'Seeds for the Future 2022' programme successfully concluded today.

Amid a closing ceremony programme held here, CEO of Huawei Nepal William Zhang handed over certificates and congratulated seven Nepali students for winning the Tech- 4Good competition held in Thailand on August 27.

A total of 256 students from across the country had applied for the programme. The seven students were chosen from a competitive application process via Huawei's Seeds for the Future programme. Altogether 24 teams from 16 countries of the APAC region presented their unique ideas in the competition, of which seven teams were chosen as the winners.

Pragya Mallik, Nirman Khadka, Jatin Bhusal, Riya Vaidya, Nadika Paudel, and Aju Tamang were among the selected students. Their project - Advait - was one of the winning projects in the Tech4Good competition. Advait is an app that uses blockchain and AI to detect fraud in medications. The idea is that a QR code is placed on each file of medication. Upon scanning this QR code, buyers are notified of the manufacturing date, the expiry date, whether the medication has come through a registered distributor/retailer, and the MRP.

Huawei launched its Seeds for the Future programme in 2008, and it was introduced in Nepal in 2021.

Anil Kumar Dutt, joint secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Dipesh Bista, CEO of the Electronic Governance Commission, and members of the selection committee were present in the programme.

On the occasion, members of the selection committee congratulated the students for their win and expressed well wishes for their future.

In his closing remarks, CEO Zhang thanked the guests and partners for their support and also praised the idea presented by the students. "'Seeds for the Future' is Huawei's longest-running global flagship CSR programme. Thousands of students from across the globe have participated in this programme since its launch in 2008. We are very proud of the achievements of the students and hope to create more opportunities for students in Nepal with help of all ICT stakeholders."

Joint Secretary Dutt also praised the student's efforts and congratulated them on their win. "When we invest in our students, we are also investing in our future. Nepal is also gradually digitising itself. We need the ideas of youth to benefit from digitisation. I hope that the seven students also share their experience and knowledge gained with other students around them and wish them well for their future."
