Hyundai gets Active with Elite i20 launch

KATHMANDU: Hyundai is all set to roll out its latest offerings — the all-new Elite i20 premium hatchback and i20 Active compact crossover in the Nepali market. Laxmi Intercontinental, authorised distributor of Hyundai for Nepal, plans to

simultaneously launch both four-wheelers by the first week of July. These cars are going to be the first two new launches for this calendar year 2072 from the Korean carmaker.

“We plan to launch both the Elite i20 and i20 Active within the first week of July,” informed Rupesh Sharma Bhatta, Assistant General Manager at Laxmi Intercontinental, adding, “As life is getting back to normal post-earthquake, we expect the launch

of these four-wheelers to help create positive vibes in the domestic automobile industry.” According to him, the Elite i20 will compete with Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Punto Evo while the competitors of i20 Active are Volkswagen Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross. He informed that the tentative price of the hatchback will be around Rs 2.8 million to Rs 3.4 million while that of the crossover will be Rs 3.7 million to Rs 4.5 million.

The all-new Hyundai Elite i20 with the fresh ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2.0’ design concept claims to bring all the exhilaration, excitement and flair one would expect from a stylish bold car. Swept-back, elongated headlamps and long flowing character lines not only define the elegance of the premium hatchback but also make it stand out in the streets. The new i20 hexagonal grille with chrome element on boundary convey an image of style authority and sophistication for the exterior design.

Powered by 1.2-litre Kappa dual VTVT petrol engine, the Elite i20 delivers a maximum power of 83 PS at 6,000 rpm

and generates a maximum torque of 11.7 kg-m at 4,000 rpm. The hatchback is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. It

offers and impressive mileage of 18.60 kmpl.

The Elite i20 is equipped with eight-speaker system, bluetooth and first in segment 1GB internal memory. The fully automatic AC maintains the desired cabin temperature and cluster ioniser generates ions to purify and deodorise cabin for a healthier and pleasant ride. Elite i20 boasts of a generous luggage space of 285L when the rear seats are in place. The all-new Elite i20 features variant-specific advanced safety features like dual airbags, ABS, headlamp escort function and rear parking assist system et cetera.

The i20 Active is yet another much-awaited compact crossover from the Hyundai stable. The crossover comes with both 1.2L Kappa dual VTVT petrol engine and 1.4L U2 CRDi engine. The petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 83 PS at 6,000 rpm while peak torque measures 11.7 kg-m at 4,000 rpm. Similarly, the diesel one produces a maximum power of 90 PS at 4,000 rpm and 22.4 kg-m of maximum torque at 1,500 to 2,750 rpm. The petrol engine is mated to five-speed manual transmission while  the diesel engine is mated to six-speed manual transmission.

The aggressive front grille accompanied by multi-feature lamps, the glossy black finish pillar and tailgate spoilers makes this crossover an active drive. The features like — rear AC vents, two power outlets, auto-foldable electric mirror, steering adaptive parking guidelines, tilt and telescopic steering, one touch signal system and driver seat height adjustment enhance the comfort and convenience of driving the crossover.

The smart key adds to the convenience and push-button enables start and stop of the car with just a touch. The i20 Active focuses on the safety measures with its features like — anti-lock braking system, anti pinch power windows, headlamp escort function, impact sensing door unlock, rear defogger lines, reverse parking sensor and smart pedal.
