IDM urges govt to issue white paper

KATHMANDU : Industrial Area Deveopment Management (IDM) Ltd has urged the government to issue white paper to prohibit illegal activities in industrial areas.

“Although we are working to rid industrial areas of encroachers and squatters, industrial sectors in Patan, Dharan and Pokhara are still in the grip of the Maoists’ sister organisations,” said Giriraj Bhandari, general manager of the Industrial Area Management.

IDM has also collected Rs 40 million dues — of the total Rs 90 million dues — within the last seven months, he said during a press meet here today to brief the media about IDM’s development activities under its new industrial promotion programme. Bhandari said four dozen of plots of land, several buildings and apartment have been vacated are being used for new industries. “The load-shedding problem also has been solved with the establishment of a new feeder at Dharan and Hetauda. Work is on to set up a new feeder at Butwal,” he said adding that IDM has formed a working committee with a policy of ‘Right Man in Right Place’ for electing office-bearers to the committee.

“IDM has also developed a system of monthly plan (MP) and monthly review (MR) system to for effectiveness in in industrial areas,” Bhandari added.

IDM is taking initiatives to establish industrial areas at Butwal, Sunwal, Dang and Kanchanpur. In the fiscal year 2065-066 BS, the government has allocated a budget of Rs 34 million for the industrial sector’s development.
