Indian aid for water supply

India has decided to provide assistance of Rs 6,040,709 for the extension and rehabilitation of Manakana water supply system in Gorkha. Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, ambassador of India to Nepal, today laid the foundation stone for the extension and rehabilitation of Manakamana water supply system in Gorkha. According to a press release issued here today, the government of India will be extending assistance of Rs 60,40,709 for the project which supplies water to the Manakamana village and surrounding areas. This project will also benefit more than 500,000 pilgrims who visit the temple every year. As a close neighbour, India has a stake in Nepal’s development especially in key areas of health, education and infrastructure, states the release. Through the Manakamana water supply project India reiterates its commitment to bilateral economic cooperation and hopes that this project will be an enduring symbol of friendship between the two countries. The project will be executed by the District Development Committee (DDC), Gorkha.
