Initiative to globalise Nepali heritage cuisine to be launched

Kathmandu, May 5

An initiative to globalise Nepali heritage cuisine is going to be launched in joint collaboration of Nepal Tourism Board, Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), Chefs Association of Nepal, and Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal on Monday.

These organisations are aiming to promote the food culture and cooking details of Nepal throughout the world.

“The initiative aims at positioning Nepal in the international market as a global food and cuisine/ gastronomy destination,” according to Nepal Tourism Board.

A cook book and video will be launched by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari and will be available online from Monday.

The cook book and video will provide the techniques to cook 30 Nepali heritage cuisines, which were selected from among 200 cuisines collected from across the country. These 30 cuisines have been certified from the central food laboratory of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC).

In the leadership of senior tourism entrepreneur Karna Shakya, the aforesaid organisations were involved in collection and promotion of heritage cuisines from across the country since September 2017.

“The cuisines incorporated in the cook book and video titled ‘Experience Nepal: Cuisine and Culture’ will be promoted all across the world through restaurants and hotels operated by non-resident Nepalis,” said Binayak Shah, general

secretary of HAN.

Ambassadors and special guests from different embassies and development missions in Nepal have been invited to the launch ceremony.
