Pyuthan, May 26:

By organising different income and skill-oriented training programmes successfully, the Jhimruk Industrial Development Centre (JIDC) has become a source of inspiration to residents of the district. The centre was established by the joint efforts of United Mission to Nepal and Butwal Power Company in 2054 BS and has been providing different kinds of trainings to youths of the district. It has already played a vital role in bringing down unemployment in the area.

Mitra Lal Bhandari, chief of JIDC, said that the centre has been trying hard to solve the unemployment problem. Youngsters who have cleared class 10 are being provided training for sub-overseer on mechanical and electronic engineering. He added, "Every year, the JIDC is producing 20 sub-overseers. These youngsters get jobs as soon as they finish their training."The JIDC has chosen Khera, Naya Gaun, Baraula, Ramdi, Dhuwang, Raspurkot, Pakala, Dangwang and Bijuli, the areas directly affected by the Jhimruk Hydel Project, as its work area.

Different NGOs and INGOs working in the district said that with the establishment of JIDC, the district has been able to get technicians from Jhimruk. Krishna Bahadur KC, chairman of local Tikuri Active Youth Group, said that the manpower produced from JIDC has helped in the development of the district in the agriculture sector as well as animal husbandry. Shree Kant Pathak, an agriculture expert at the centre, said that new programmes have been incorporated in the agriculture sector to increase the income of local farmers. According to the information given by Pathak to The Himalayan Times, the locals are now getting into animal husbandry, poultry farming, vegetable farming and apiculture. This has substantially increased the living standards of farmers. But increased production has thrown up the problem of lack of market.
