KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 11

The 220 KV power transmission line along the Kaligandaki corridor has commenced operations. With the initiation of this transmission line, a stable power supply is expected for the districts of Nawalparasi and Rupandehi.

On Monday, Minister for Energy Shakti Bahadur Basnet inaugurated the 90-kilometer transmission line, which extends from Khurkot in Kushma Municipality-2, Parbat, to the New Butwal Substation at Suryabasti in Sunwal Municipality-13, Bardhaghat Susta Paschim.

This 220 KV transmission line will carry power generated from the hydropower projects in the Kaligandaki River and its tributaries, boasting a capacity to transmit 1,200 megawatts. Minister Basnet emphasized the vital role of the Kaligandaki corridor transmission line in facilitating power supply across the east-west region of Nepal and supporting trans-border power trade.

Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, highlighted the New Butwal Substation as a significant hub for power distribution at the local level, east-west power supply, and export to India.

A total of 236 towers have been erected along the transmission line. This power transmission grid is poised to enhance and fortify the internal power distribution and trans-border transmission system in the country.

The development of the Kaligandaki corridor transmission line has not only improved the credibility of the integrated power system but has also enhanced power voltage in Nawalparasi and Rupandehi districts. Furthermore, power generated in Mustang and Myagdi districts will now be connected to the same transmission line for supply to the national grid.

The completion of the transmission line, funded with an investment of Rs 11 billion from the government, NEA, and the South Asia Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation of the Asian Development Bank, marks a significant milestone.

Following this, another 220 KV power supply line from Hetauda to New Butwal is expected to be prepared after the completion of the power grid from New Butwal Substation to Bardaghat."
