Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Dol Prasad Aryal requested equal treatment of Nepali workers working in Malaysia as local workers regarding the service conditions, health facilities and work environment.
During a meeting held today with Malaysian Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is here on a threeday visit, Minister Aryal also sought the renewal of bilateral labour agreement between the governments of Nepal and Malaysia and regular meetings of the joint working committee for the resolution of labour-related issues.
According to the ministry, discussions were held on various subjects, including effectively implementing the Fair and Ethical Recruitment Policy, to provide Nepali workers with service conditions and facilities as per contract, to fully integrate Nepali workers working in Malaysia into the Social Security System (SOCSO), to provide respectable salaries to Nepali workers working as security guards according to their time and ability, and facilitating banks and financial institutions in Malaysia in sending remittances to Nepal using formal channels.
Meanwhile, informing about the Foreign Workers Employment Relaxation Plan and illegal / Undocumented Foreign Workers Recalibration Plan that was recently introduced by the Malaysian government, Home Minister Ismail requested the government of Nepal for assistance in its implementation.
Accepting Nepal's proposal, he also expressed the commitment of the Malaysian government to promote social security, health and other service conditions of Nepali workers and to hold a joint working committee meeting in Nepal this year to advance the renewal process of the bilateral labour agreement.
