Lanka seeks FIs in drug industry

Colombo, August 1:

Sri Lanka is inviting foreign investors (FIs) to set up pharmaceutical manufacturing plants to overcome drug shortages in the country, reports Xinhua. “You might say that Sri Lanka, being a small market, you won’t be able to get a fair return on your investment. The government is prepared to give you a money back guarantee,” healthcare and nutrition minister Nimal Siripala de Silva was quoted as saying by the Daily News today. The minister said any investor interested in setting up pharmaceutical manufacturing plants would be provided all help by the government on agreed upon terms for a stipulated time period. “That will give you a guarantee and ensure that your investment will be fruitful. So we are there not only to purchase items but also to enter into a long term partnership with the manufacturers,” he said.
