Thami locals in Alampu VDC of Dolakha are delighted after generating electricity from the money made by selling stones.

"Thami people in the northern rural part of Alampu VDC have produced 1.5-kw electricity in Ward no 2, 3, 4 and 14 benefiting 250 locals from the money earned by selling stones and other supplies," a local Karna Thami told The Himalayan Times.

The production cost of the electricity was Rs 0.227 million which consists of community labour worth Rs 90,000.

Electricity has been produced with technical support from Doba Temba Sherpa of Khopachagu VDC. Two lights have been allocated in each house.

Local villagers, with help of a peltrick set, produced electricity from Khanbesi River with the money they saved from selling stones.

Thamis who are economically, socially and educationally backward, seem to have changed their status.

After generating electricity on their own, the aged of the village engage in work all night, knitting bags and sacks for income.

"After Thamichagu, neighbouring village of Alampu VDC generated electricity with the

help of Rural Energy Development Project, the aged worked all night to change the

economic and social lifestyle of the village.

Seeing this, we thought of bringing electricity to our village by working hard," stated local Shankar Thami.
