PM calls for a collective effort to ensure free and fair polls
KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 17
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said the interim government is focused on two key priorities, establishing good governance and successfully conducting the upcoming elections.
Addressing the 107th establishment anniversary of Lalitpur Metropolitan City on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said preparations are underway to hold the House of Representatives election on March 5, 2026, following the political situation that emerged after the September 8–9 Gen Z movement.
Stating that elections are essential to advance democratic values and constitutional governance, Prime Minister Karki said the government is committed to transferring executive authority to a new elected government. She urged all stakeholders to contribute to ensuring a free, fair, impartial, and cost-effective election.
The Prime Minister also warned against anarchic activities, saying the security agencies remain vigilant in maintaining peace and addressing criminal acts. Emphasising the role of citizens, she called for collective efforts to strengthen social harmony and good governance.
