Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Surendra Acharya, believes that Manungkot in Tanahu district will contribute to the country's tourism sector.
Inaugurating the 7th Byas Town Ultra Marathon at Manungkot in Byas municipality-5 today, Minister Acharya emphasized the need to prioritize infrastructure development in Manungkot. He pledged the federal government's support for this endeavor.
Mayor Baikuntha Neupane of Byas municipality stated that the ultra marathon aims to promote tourism through sports and culture in Manungkot.
The ultra marathon, which marks Martyrs Day every 16th of the Nepali month Magh, covers a 44-km route connecting Magar village to Gurung within the municipality. There are 116 marathon runners participating, including teams from Tribhuvan Army Club, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police, alongside athletes from various districts such as Kaski, Lamjung, Gorkha, Dhading, Chitwan, Dolpa, Rukum, and Kathmandu.
The marathon route starts from Manungkot and ends at Pulimarang, passing through Alainche, Chapaghat, Ansan Chautari, Safa Sadak, Bhorletar Chowk, Baireni, Dumsi, Kalesti, Pathra, Satrasaya, Baniya Hidi, Barlachi, Sotibeshi, Baguwa Risti, and Bahun Pokhara. Checkpoints have been set up along the route.
The prize for the first-place runner is Rs 85,000, Rs 65,000 for the second-place runner, and Rs 55,080 for the third. Additionally, five winners will receive a consolation prize of Rs 16,080 each.
Previously, only runners from Tanahu district were allowed to participate, but this time, participants from other districts are also welcome.
