Kathmandu, September 4:

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) wants effective marshalling of supply of essential items during Dashain and Tihar.

Speaking on behalf of its supply committee, Dr Deva Bhakta Shakya said, “With major festivals round the corner, people including the government do not want prices of essential commodities to skyrocket.” He said it was vital to review the food grains, sugar, edible oils and pulses supply plan and price control in Dashain and Tihar.

Must items for Dashain and Tihar are sugar, edible oils/vegetable ghee, rice, wheat, flour, beaten rice, meat and spices. So are kerosene and LPG.

Dr Shakya said the Supply Ministry has proposed importing from India 100,000 tonnes of coarse rice, 50,000 tons of sugar, 10,000 tonness of wheat to augment the existing stock of 10,000 tonnes and at least 8000 tonnes of LPG in the following month.
