Mauritius jobless rate

PORT LOUIS: Mauritius’ unemployment rate rose slightly to 7.9 per cent in 2015 from 7.8 per cent the previous year, official data showed on Thursday. According to a statement from Statistics Mauritius (SM), the government’s statistics office, the number of unemployed people in the Indian Ocean island nation increased to 46,300 last year, an extra of 1,500 people from the 2014 level. SM did not give an explanation for the small rise in unemployment. The statement said joblessness among women rose from 11.4 per cent to 11.6 per cent while male unemployment rate remained same at 5.5 per cent.
