KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 11

Supreme Court Justice Anil Kumar Sinha has said the micro indicators of the economy should be strengthened for the development of the country.

Justice Sinha said so during the concluding session of a week-long professional law training for economic journalists jointly organised by Nepal Bar Association (NBA) and Society of economic journalists Nepal (SEJON).

Reminding that Nepal has adopted the open economy policy, he stressed on the need for the country to make the economy more dynamic for sustainable development. Gopal Krishna Ghimire, president of NBA, said that lawyers should also work for social well-being.

"Lawyers don't only aim to earn money, as they are also campaigners who have responsibilities towards society," Ghimire informed, adding the media as well as legal practitioners should pay attention to corporate law.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of NBA Anjita Khanal said that such training programmes will be organised in the future as well in collaboration with SEJON.

"The eight-day-long training is hardly enough, but we hope the participants were able to gain some clarity on the law-related confusions they might have encountered during business reporting."

President of SEJON Janardan Baral said that SEJON and NBA will continue to pilot the skill development programme in the future. He said that this training will make it easier to understand complex legal issues raised by the media.

Various senior advocates gave training on banking and financial law, foreign investment, international trade, insurance, financial transactions and contracts, taxation, intellectual property, media law, public procurement law, corporate law, securities market law during the training period.
