The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has commenced the initial groundwork for the implementation of the budget for forthcoming financial year 2023-24.

The MoF today engaged in discussions with the secretaries of the pertinent ministries regarding the management of public expenditure for the remaining duration of the ongoing financial year. Additionally, they focused on outlining preliminary preparations necessary for forthcoming financial year's budget implementation.

During the meeting, Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat underscored the significance of meeting the obligations generated in the current financial year.

He urged all ministry secretaries to prioritise prompt payment of these obligations. Minister Mahat also provided instructions for the secretaries to collaboratively formulate a comprehensive action plan and establish a well-structured timetable, ensuring seamless implementation of the budget for the forthcoming financial year 2023-24.

Moreover, Mahat firmly instructed the ministries to initiate preparations with unwavering determination for the successful implementation of budget system reform programmes specified in the upcoming budget. He reiterated the importance of ensuring the fulfillment of all commitments stated in the budget proposal, emphasising that there would be no exceptions in their effective execution.

During the meeting, Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission Min Bahadur Shrestha, and Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal, among others, were specifically instructed to actively participate in the preparatory activities for budget implementation.

The MoF also delivered a comprehensive report on the progress of the ongoing fiscal year's budget implementation, as well as insights into the upcoming fiscal year.
