Morang women get empowered

BIRATNAGAR: Local women associated with Women’s Agricultural Cooperatives Jante have started a campaign to become self-sufficient through group farming.

The cooperative was set up by 140 women a year ago and focuses its programmes on supporting the backward, single and dalit women in villages, said organization chairperson Shanta Rai.

The cooperative has started progressive farming programmes on 5 bighas of land on contract to boost the organization’s income. It is also taking technical and physical support from the District Agricultural Development Office.
