KATHMANDU, JULY 2

A total of 72,250 foreign tourists visited Nepal in June according to the latest data released by the Department of Immigration, a considerable increase compared to the arrival of 46,957 in the same month of previous year.

India emerged as the top source country for tourists visiting Nepal, with a total of 38,845 Indian nationals visiting the country. In comparison, the number of Indian tourists who visited Nepal in the same month last year was 23,248.

The United States was the second-largest source country of tourists visiting Nepal in June, with a total of 8,470 American nationals arriving in the country, a slight increase from the 8,351 American tourists who visited Nepal in June 2022.

Similarly, a total of 4,343 tourists were from China; 2,402 from Bangladesh; 1,992 from the United Kingdom; 1,639 from Australia; 1,079 from Malaysia; 888 from South Korea; 702 from Bhutan; 764 from Japan; 614 from France and 593 from Canada, among others.

With this, the country has now welcomed 476,481 tourists as of June since the start of the year, up from the arrival of 240,901 tourists in the first six months of 2022.

In geographic terms, a total of 196,248 tourists or 41.19 per cent visited Nepal from SAARC countries in the first half of 2023; 71,611 tourists or 15.03 per cent from Asia; 83,214 tourists or 17.46 per cent from Europe; 19,276 tourists or 4.05 per cent from Oceania; 56,808 tourists or 11.92 per cent from Americas; 44,175 tourists or 1.08 per cent from Middle-East and 44,175 or 9.27 per cent from countries categorised as others.
