‘Need to bridge gap between youth and IT’

Stakeholders involved in the information and technology (IT) sector have stressed on the need to reduce the gap between youths and IT for the overall development of the country in a smoother and speedier manner.
Speaking at a seminar on empowering youths in technology, which was organised by Spiralogics Nepal, they pointed to the need to bridge the gap between youths and IT to take domestic IT sector to greater heights.
“IT today has not only become a driving force for economic, political and social issues, but has also become a part of our daily life and the youth are the force that can drive the country’s IT sector,” said Krishna Prasad Upadhyay, managing director of Spiralogics Nepal, adding that Spiralogics has been working to bridge the gap between IT and youths in the country.
Addressing the seminar, Matthew Stonehouse, a business analyst from the United States, said that the youth will always have bigger opportunities in the IT sector as compared to other sectors as IT is an ever-growing industry in the present context.
Informing that a majority of the youths in Nepal are only textbook-literate, professor Mana Prasad Wagley stressed the need to mix the country’s education system with IT to increase youth participation in the IT sector.
Meanwhile, Romkanta Pandey, vice-president of CAN Federation, said that lack of proper coordination between the government, its policies, IT sector entrepreneurs and youths has resulted in widening the gap between youths and IT in Nepal.
