Nepali sugarcane finds its market
Jhalari, April 6:
Sugarcane farmers in southern parts of Kanchanpur are a happy lot after their produce has found markets. They were affected in the past due to the closure of traditional sugarcane mills during the conflict. Some farmers even had to burn the crop in the field after it did not find market in the past.
Ram Pyara Chaudhary of Shankarpur said he sold the sugarcane at Rs 230 per quintal to a local traditional mill. He said he was unable to sell even a quintal of sugarcane last year. At least 27 traditional sugarcane mills have come into operation in Sripur VDC alone. The mill owners
have been going to Indian villages across the border to find sugarcane as the local produce is not sufficient.
