The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 26.16 points, or 0.96 per cent, on Tuesday to close at 2,674.48 points.

The sensitive index declined by 0.50 per cent, while the float index dropped by 0.88 per cent.

Sector-wise, all sub-indices ended in the red except the mutual fund sector, which gained 0.45 per cent. The manufacturing and processing sector posted the biggest loss of 1.92 per cent, followed by hydropower (1.63 per cent), trading (1.57 per cent), finance (1.28 per cent), hotels and tourism (1.11 per cent), investment (1.03 per cent) and non-life insurance (1.01 per cent). The remaining sectors declined by less than one per cent.

The market recorded a daily turnover of Rs 4.36 billion, with 10.04 million shares of 353 companies traded through 72,854 transactions.

Total market capitalisation stood at Rs 4.57 trillion, while float market capitalisation was Rs 1.54 trillion.

In terms of individual stock performance, 23 companies advanced, 239 declined and 10 remained unchanged.

Among individual scrips, Bungal Hydro Limited (BUNGAL) hit the negative circuit breaker, falling by 15 per cent. Despite the broader market decline, Taksar Pikhuwa Khola Hydropower Limited (TPKHL) and Yambaling Hydropower Limited (YMHL) almost reached the upper circuit limit, gaining 14.99 per cent each.
