KATHMANDU, APRIL 1

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) declined sharply by 74.73 points, or 2.62 percent, on Wednesday to close at 2,776.36 points, reversing the previous day's gains.

The market had risen by around 19 points on Tuesday after losing 118 points over Sunday and Monday, but failed to sustain the upward momentum.

Alongside the benchmark index, the sensitive index fell by 2.31 percent, while the float index dropped by 2.62 percent.

All sectoral indices ended in the red, with the 'Others' sector recording the highest loss of 5.26 percent. It was followed by the trading sector, down 3.96 percent, development banks by 3.18 percent, and the finance sector by 3.03 percent.

Daily turnover showed slight improvement, reaching Rs 12.10 billion through the trading of 30.29 million shares of 347 companies in 123,730 transactions. The previous session had recorded an intraday turnover of Rs 11.11 billion.

In terms of individual stock performance, 13 companies advanced while 255 declined during the session.

Among gainers, Super Khudi Hydropower Limited and Reliance Spinning Mills Limited hit the positive circuit limit of 10 percent.

By the end of the trading day, the total market capitalisation stood at Rs 4.72 trillion.
