KATHMANDU, APRIL 3
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) witnessed a single digit gain of 3.35 points or 0.12% on Thursday, as the NEPSE index crossed the 2,700 mark, closing at 2,703.39 points by the end of the trading day.
Despite the marginal rise in the benchmark index, daily turnover saw a significant boost. A total of Rs 7.84 billion was transacted from the exchange of 15,502,998 units of shares across 324 companies in 69,089 transactions. This marks a notable increase from Wednesday's turnover of Rs 5.4 billion.
Alongside the benchmark index, the Sensitive Index, which tracks Class 'A' stocks, climbed 0.51%, while the Float Index, representing actively traded shares, gained 0.29%.
Most sectors ended in the red, except for the Others sector, which led the gainers with a 1.45% rise. The Banking sector followed with a 0.96% gain, while the Non-Life Insurance and Hydropower sectors added 0.59% and 0.03%, respectively.
On the losing side, the Trading sector suffered the biggest drop, declining by 1.66%, followed by the Finance sector with a 1.59% loss. No other sector recorded a decline of over 1%.
Overall, market sentiment remained bearish, with 151 scrips closing lower against 93 advancing stocks.
At the close of trading, the total market capitalization stood at Rs 4.489 trillion.
