KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 8

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a significant downturn, with the index plunging by 35.67 points or 1.82 percent, closing at 1921.24 points, on Sunday. The day began with the benchmark index at 1963.8 points, but unfortunately, it continued to decline throughout the trading session without any signs of recovery.

In today's trading, not only did the NEPSE index suffer, but the sensitive index, which assesses the performance of class 'A' stocks, also saw a decline of 1.55 percent, shedding 5.79 points to settle at 367.57 points. Additionally, the float index, which reflects the performance of actively traded shares, experienced a drop of 1.83 percent, losing 2.49 points and ending the day at 133.46 points.

A total of 5,815,189 shares from 289 different stocks changed hands today through 59,171 transactions. This led to a total turnover of over Rs 1.801 billion which was an improvement compared to last week which witnessed a continuous drop in turnover.

In today's market, all sub-indices were in negative territory, with the hydropower index taking the biggest hit, falling by 2.72 percent. It was followed by the hotels and tourism index, which dropped by 2.35 percent, and the life insurance index, which saw a 2.28 percent loss.

The total market capitalization at the close of today's trading stood at Rs 2.930 trillion.
