KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 3

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index experienced a significant decline of 17.56 points, equivalent to 0.88 percent, closing at 1958.72 points, on Tuesday.

This drop came after a brief recovery on Monday when the benchmark index gained 5.19 points, following a substantial 33.20 point decrease on Sunday.

During today's trading session, the sensitive index, which assesses the performance of class 'A' stocks, also fell by 0.97 percent, or 3.66 points, reaching 374.10 points. Similarly, the float index, which measures the performance of actively traded shares, declined by 0.87 percent, or 1.19 points, closing at 136.10 points.

In today's market activity, all sub-indices were in the red, with the trading index experiencing the most significant loss at 1.47 percent, followed by the hydropower index with a 1.38 percent drop and the finance index with a 1.27 percent decrease.

The index, which began the day at 1977.83 points, experienced an immediate decline upon the market's opening. It fluctuated throughout the day but never managed to recover, eventually reaching 1968.47 points at 1:39 pm. From that point onwards, it underwent a sharp decline and ultimately closed at 1958.72 points.

Today's trading session saw a total of 3,965,917 shares from 281 different scrips changing hands through 55,096 transactions, resulting in a turnover of over Rs 1.199 billion. This marked a significant drop compared to Monday's turnover of Rs 1.737 billion.

The total market capitalization during today's trading stood at Rs 2.986 trillion.
