Banking sector leads losses; only hydropower posts marginal gain
KATHMANDU, JULY 14
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index dropped by 35.09 points or 1.27%, closing at 2,725.71 points by the end of trading on Monday, following a 1.06% gain on Sunday.
The session witnessed a broad-based decline across major indices. The Float Index, which reflects performance of actively traded stocks, fell by 1.42%, while the Sensitive Index, tracking class 'A' companies, declined by 1.40%.
Sector-wise, market performance was overwhelmingly negative. Only the Hydropower sector managed a marginal gain of 0.15%, while the Banking sector recorded the highest loss of the day at 2.46%.
Trading activity also weakened significantly, with daily turnover shrinking to Rs 8.17 billion, down from Rs 11.41 billion on Sunday. A total of 21,102,540 shares from 321 companies were traded across 72,601 transactions.
Out of the traded stocks, only 50 advanced, while 198 declined.
The day's trading closed with the total market capitalization standing at Rs 4.541 trillion.
