Nice budget, says FCAN

KATHMANDU: Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) today lauded the

fiscal year 2009-10 budget for addressing the major points of infrastructure

development and being more inclusive.

Speaking at a budget interaction programme, FCAN president Yakchya Dhoj Karki also expressed pleasure at the budget having taken into consideration his association’s 45-point charter of demands.

FCAN also urged for making amendments to the compulsory provision of electronic tender notice registration for large infrastructure projects and small projects. The association also insisted on immediate action for removal of scrap charge, road barriers and local development charge. “Though there is the facility of multi-contract system for fast infrastructure development the policy is still not clear. The budget should be revolved so that general construction budget does not lapse,” said Karki.

The association also urged for amending the Public Procurement Act so that no qualification is needed for construction work up to Rs 60 million and contractors can take part without any competition.
