KATHMANDU, JUNE 29
The newly elected members of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) have met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' to discuss the country's economy.
Led by the newly-elected President of the CNI Rajesh Kumar Agarwal, the members held a meeting at the prime minister's residence in Baluwatar today.
During the meeting, CNI President Agarwal emphasised the importance of successfully implementing the budget to keep the economy running smoothly.
He urged for an environment where allocated capital budget is spent on time and also requested the representation of the private sector in the monitoring committee, which was announced by the government for the successful implementation of the budget.
He stressed that in order to achieve the targeted six per cent economic growth outlined in the budget, a loose monetary policy is necessary to keep the economy running.
He expressed concerns about imposing taxes on further public offerings (FPOs), mergers and acquisitions, stating that it could discourage investors and send a negative message to the international market.
He called for the promotion of local production and an increase in government revenue to combat smuggling effectively.
Additionally, he requested swift implementation of the agreements regarding electricity export and electronic payments that were made during the recent visit of the prime minister to India.
Prime Minister Dahal, while congratulating and wishing a successful tenure of the newly elected officials of CNI, acknowledged the confederation's role in providing practical suggestions for economic and industrial development.
PM Dahal said that cooperation of the private sector, including the CNI, is a priority to alleviate the pressure and hardships faced by the country's economy.
