KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 27
Newly-elected Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has acknowledged the present economic situation of the country and said that the government has taken the issue very seriously.
Discussing the economic situation with a delegation of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) today morning, PM Dahal shared that the economic issues have already been discussed during the first meeting of the Cabinet, and added that the revival of the economy is the foremost priority of the government.
On the occasion, Shekhar Golchha, president of FNCCI, congratulated and expressed well wishes to PM Dahal on behalf of the entire private sector.
Stating that the new prime minister is already aware of the country's economic situation, Golchha informed that the industries are facing a huge problem in even operating their business.
He suggested that the central bank should use all monetary instruments to solve the problem of liquidity crunch and postpone the directive regarding the current capital loan for at least two years. He shared that the economy of the country is in a very sensitive state and stressed the need to focus on the revival of the economy above anything else.
Meanwhile, PM Dahal said that he respects the interests and concerns of the private sector regarding the sensitive state of the economy. PM Dahal also said that he is looking into the suggestions given earlier by the federation and that he will take the initiative to solve the problem at the earliest in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, Nepal Rastra Bank, and the private sector in this matter.
Furthermore, the delegation of FNCCI also met with the newly-elected Minister for Finance Bishnu Paudel at the ministry. During the meeting, FNCCI President Golchha briefed Minister Paudel on the economic situation and presented suggestions on behalf of the federation to solve the existing economic problems.
On the occasion, Minister Paudel said that the priority given to the meeting with the umbrella organisation of the private sector shows how serious the government is towards the demands of the private sector. He also clarified that the relationship between the government and the private sector is interdependent, and added that the economy is also affected when the morale of the private sector falls.
Furthermore, Minister Paudel said that the government also supports the campaign promoted by FNCCI to revive the economy.
"The private sector should work with high morale. We are aware of the problems and are positive about solving it," he said.
