Nepal has slipped one position in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2024, according to the latest report released by Transparency International on Tuesday.
Nepal is now ranked 107th among 180 countries, with a CPI score of 34, compared to 106th place with a score of 35 in 2023.
The CPI, which assesses the perceived levels of public sector corruption worldwide, uses a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 indicates highly corrupt and 100 represents very clean.
According to Transparency International, while 32 countries have significantly reduced corruption since 2012, 148 countries have either stagnated or worsened over the same period. The global average CPI score remains at 43, and over two-thirds of countries continue to score below 50.
Denmark remains the least corrupt country, ranking 1st with a score of 90, the same as last year. Finland moved up to 2nd place with 88 points, while Singapore climbed to 3rd place with 84 points.
In South Asia, Bhutan stands out as the least corrupt country, ranking 18th with a score of 72. India and the Maldives are tied at 96th place, each with a score of 38, marking a one-rank drop for both countries compared to 2023. Sri Lanka ranks 121st with a score of 32, while Pakistan is placed 135th with 27 points. Bangladesh is ranked 151st with a score of 23.
