The Press Council Nepal (PCN) has been consistently refusing to register The Himalayan Times' response to the council's unilateral and draconian action against the daily for the last two days.
Officials at the PCN repeatedly declined to accept a formal note from THT, which sought to register its protest against the council's decision.
"We cannot register THT's response as our Chairman, Bal Krishna Basnet, is out of the country," said an officer at the registration desk.
It is highly surprising that the PCN declined to register THT's reply, especially after it had ordered it to submit its response within three days.
Meanwhile, the PCN has registered a protest note submitted by the Nepal Media Society, which calls for the immediate withdrawal of the council's draconian action against THT.
Is the PCN stonewalling THT's attempts to present its case or what? Or is it an extra constitutional body run by an individual?
