Road to a better education, career

Kathmandu, June 7 :

If you’re currently pondering over what to major in your baccalaureate or masters, or which college or university to attend to, Ambition 2006, Education and Career Expo, can help you. It can also tell you where the best jobs will be available tomorrow.

Presented by Annapurna Post, Ambition 2006 is being organised by Asia Pacific Communication Associates Nepal Pvt Ltd (APCA-Nepal) at Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu from June 16-18. It aims to serve as a bridge between career-conscious students and numerous educational institutions in offering study courses within and outside the country.

Ambition 2006 would be a place where information on education institutions, education counseling for domestic and abroad study, standard test preparation and prospectus of academic isntiturtions would be made available to visitors. More than three dozens leading educational counseling organisations, technical education providers and other educational institutions are taking part in the event.

Y R Sharma, chief executive officer at the Himalayan White House International College is very optimist that Ambition 2006 would help students find institutions that suit them best.

With a large number of institutions taking part in the event, students would find the opportunity to compare various institutions and find the right school or college, said Sharma.

While educational institutions grow at a sizzling pace, the academic courses in these institutions are also undergoing major changes. A course that was very lucrative a few years back, attracts few students now, he said. The forthcoming event would provide a platform for educators and students to discuss new programmes, he added.

“Education is market-driven, not only for students but also for institutions. The popularity of courses often has little to do with actual demand in the market,” Sharma said.

Uttam Pant, principal at Universal Language and Computer Institute, said that he is very glad that many educational consultancies have come up to provide services to Nepali students in recent times. “This is a very positive development for this service industry,” he said.

Students’ must assess their requirement and academic background, while taking into account the service charges being asked by the consultancy firm, before choosing one, he said.

Ambition 2006 is a good place for exhibitors to showcase their products to visitors. Both exhibitors and visitors can without any doubt benefit a lot from this event, Pant said.

“It is a rare opportunity for visitors to find all educational institutions at one place. Students who have just appeared in their SLC examination can find colleges of their choice. College students can find consultancies and preparatory courses or options to study abroad. Parents can consult experts who can be trusted to take care of their children’s education. Book lovers can find books of their choice as well,” he said.

Students need to take into account the credibility, recognition and prospect of qualifications earned, physical infrastructure and human resources available before choosing a college. The event would be helpful in providing a wide gamut of academic and career opportunities,” said Babita Labh Kayastha, principal, Kathmandu Valley Higher Secondary School.

The participating institutes would benefit from interacting and attracting students. It is an effective method of earning goodwill and strengthening public relations, she added.
