New Corvette model

This sixth generation Corvette has been heavily influenced by the almost unbeatable C5-R Corvette race car. CorvetteZ06 uses the Corvette’s massively strong but surprisingly light aluminium chassis structure, and that contributes to a relatively modest weight of only 1420kg. That comes from the latest version of the 7-litre LS7 V8 with exotic features like titanium connecting rods and a race-bred dry-sump lubrication system. It also has a colossal 475lb ft of torque, and all that is enough to promise a maximum speed of 190mph with 0-60mph in less than four seconds, or 0-100kph in only 4.1 seconds.

Chevrolet-Matiz ties

Individually, the names Chevrolet and Matiz are familiar enough, even in Europe, but Chevrolet and Matiz together is a new combination, as former Matiz maker Daewoo is rebranded ‘Chevrolet’ for the European market. It offers 52bhp 800cc and 66bhp 1-litre three-and four-cylinder petrol engines that are Euro 4 emissions compliant and around 15 per cent more economical than their predecessors - with performance and economy also helped by lighter weight and better aerodynamic efficiency. It also looks very neat and makes good use of space in a small package.

Mitsubishi Nessie

Mitsubishi Nessie — an advanced SUV concept intended to address the problem of creating a 4x4 with the looks and versatility car buyers desire, yet without the environmental impact that tree-huggers hate. Nessie is the latest in a line of Mitsubishi SUV concepts. It’s a worthwhile dream, though: plentiful power will come from a V8 hydrogen-fuelled engine that emits nothing but water.

Aston’s V8 Vantage

Aston Martin launched the new V8 Vantage before the Geneva Auto Show. Dr Ulrich Bez was proud to announce that the new car meant a small step for the automotive industry, but a big one for Aston Martin. The company, which in 1992 only produced 42 cars, is getting more and more successful. The new V8 Vantage is the most important car in Aston Martin’s history. It will be the most affordable Aston ever with a price in the range of $150,000. The V8 Vantage is basically identical to the concept car that was unveiled last year in Los Angeles. — Agencies
