Rural info-centre proves vital

Secretary at the ministry of science and technology Swayambhuman Amatya while on an inspection tour of Rural Information Centre (RIC) said that the RIC established at Katuwachupari of Parbat district is the most effective information centre in Nepal.

On the occasion, secretary Amatya said that the government is planning to expand information centres across the country which has been very effective in providing relief in various information technology to the rural people.

Information centres have already been established in eight out of the targetted 15 places of nine districts this year.

The centre at Katuwachupari was established seven months ago with the objective of providing information in matters relating to agriculture, education, health, production-oriented economic activities, environment protection and natural calamity mitigation.

The information centre will also provide telephone, fax, e-mail, internet, computer typing and printing and photocopy services to the locals, said Uchit Panta, a social mobiliser at the centre.
