Sale of electricity rises

Biratnagar, June 13 :

Electricity sold by Nepal from the eastern region-based power plants to bordering Indian villages is likely to increase by 15 per cent in the current fiscal year.

Chief accountant officer, Tanka Prasad Shrestha of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), regional directorate office, Biratnagar said, “With the increasing number of Indian consumers, more electricity is being consumed there.” According to him, electricity worth Rs 198,552,000 was consumed in Indian villages and nearby markets during Chaitra last (mid-April). Electricity worth Rs 264,700,000 was consumed there during Ashad last (June/ July), he said, adding, “Load-shedding affected regular electric supply this year.”

According to statistics of the office, electricity worth Rs 228,466,000 was consumed during the last fiscal year. According to Nepal-India Electricity Exchange Programme, electricity is being supplied to different bordering areas in India from different powerhouses of Nepal. Electricity is being supplied to India with the help of 133 KV central transmission line, the directorate office informed.

Demand for Nepali electricity is high in bordering areas due to its cheap price and easy supply, said officials in the directorate office.
