Mountain Sherpa Foundation with the support from Sherpa Support Foundation, USA, has offered financial educational support to schoolchildren in remote areas of Solukhumbu district.
Foundation coordinator Pasang Sherpa Pinasa shared that at least 140 students of all seven wards of Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality have been offered Rs 10,000 each per year for their education.
"Main objective of this initiative is to bring educational change in remote villages and build an educated society uplifting economically backward students," Sherpa said.
According to Sherpa, 20 students from each ward are selected for the educational support. "It's a five year plan to support them in their school education," he said, adding that scholarship distribution programs were conducted there from May 19-28. "Students from the underprivileged community will utilize the fund to buy their school dress, pen, pencils and school bags," he added.
Last year, the foundation provided 1,010 bags to children in 18 schools in villages of Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality. Such programmes aimed to inspire children to motivate towards better education and help poor students in local villages, he shared.
