SINGAPORE: Singapore said Tuesday it will invest 1.73 billion Singapore dollars (1.19 billion US) in information and communication technology projects in the current fiscal year.

The planned investment -- to last until March 31 2010 -- will go to more than 392 projects that are to be put out for tender, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore said in a statement.

"In spite of the economic downturn, infocomm investment by the government remains high, as it remains an important part of the government's ability to deliver quality public service," the authority said.

In the financial year to March 2009, the government awarded 1.6 billion dollars worth of information and communication technology projects, the statement said.
