The Super Kabeli 'A' Hydropower Project has officially commenced power generation.
Developed by Snow Rivers Limited, the project has a generation capacity of 13.5 MW and is situated in Yamphudin, Sirijangha Rural Municipality-8, Taplejung district.
The electricity produced by the project is transmitted to the national grid via Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)'s 32-kVA Amarpur substation, located 31 kilometers from the powerhouse at Yamphudin.
According to Meghnath Dhungana, the project's public relations officer, power transmission to the national grid began following a successful one-week test run. The project was completed with an investment of NPR 2.6329 billion and its construction commenced in the second week of December 2022.
With the completion of the Super Kabeli 'A' Project, Taplejung district now hosts eight operational hydropower companies. Among them, the 73-MW Middle Tamor Hydropower Project, developed by Sanima Hydro Company, is the largest.
Other significant projects include the 25-MW Kabeli 'B-1' and the 10-MW Kabeli 'B-1' Cascade Project, both operated by Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company.
Currently, over 18 hydropower projects are under construction in Taplejung. Upon their completion, the district's power production capacity will witness substantial expansion.
