Supplier alleges corruption by police HQs

KATHMANDU: Peace Nepal Fashion Industries Pvt Ltd has condemned the Nepal Police headquarters at Naxal for allegedly committing open corruption by providing contract in the bidding that opened on May 15 to Anand Trade Concerns —a company that quoted the highest price. “We filled the tender of Rs 1099 per parka whereas Anand Trade Concerns filled the highest tender of Rs 2465.53,” said Peace Nepal proprieter Damber Prasad Adhikari. He added that nothing could be more shameful than the trend of providing contract to industries supplying products from foreign countries.

“There is a provision of buying domestic products, even if it is 15 per cent expensive in comparison to foreign products,” said Adhikari adding that the police headquarters has not only given the contract at double the price but also crossed all limits in taking huge commissions. “The tender was awarded to Anand Trade without it undergoing any technical tests,” said Rastriya Udhyog Banijya Mahasangh general secretary Ishwor Pandey. he added that the competition was not fair and that it has directly affected the workers and labourers of other companies.

According to Adhikari, this action of the Naxal-based police headquarters has not only hindered domestic firms from becoming independent producers of goods but also decreased employment opportunities of many people. He further added that, at present the industry has been providing employment opportunity to 100 people, but if such steps of corruption can be ended then the industry is able to give job to 1000 people. “If a sector responsible for maintaining law and ensuring justice itself is involved in corruption, it is not possible to expect transperancy anymore in any competition,” said Rastriya Udhyog Banijya Mahasangh secretary Bharat Bhandari.

The last date of tender submission was June 14.
